Bare Hands Gallery - Wearable Art Show
Bare Hands Gallery has a wonderful wearable art show taking place the month of May. It's located in downtown Birmingham, opens Wednesday through Saturday 11:00-6:00. I've placed a couple of my hand-dyed silk scarves and three sleeveless tops in the art show. There's a lot of talent in the area, so I hope you'll get a chance to stop by.
In the meantime, I'll be dyeing some silk! Feel free to contact me!

It's the International Year of Natural Fibre
Check out the Keepthefleece.org
International Year of Natural Fibre
In case you were not aware of it, this year is the International Year of Natural Fibres. It is a United Nations initiative designed to raise awareness of and stimulate demand for natural fibres. We just found an interesting web site started by Linda Cortright at Wild Fibers that aims to celebrate this year and build the community. If you are interested in visiting it (and maybe entering the competitions )

Alabama Designer Craftsmen Show - November 2008
Alabama Designer Craftsmen Show at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens - November 1, 2, 2008. This is the second day of the show. I had sold quite a few of the items, so I ended up re-arranging the items I still had for sale. It was a good show and I had a great time with my two fiber artist friends - Terry Martin and Susie Strauss. We all had the "Fiber Arts" area at the show. There is so much talent in this group, blacksmith, wood-artists, glass blowers and glass artists and so many talented jewelry and clay artists. I'm glad to be a part of this group representing the state of Alabama.
WHO DO YOU KNOW - THAT NUNO'S.
It seems like I never get around to posting. Actually, I'm working a lot on production of my textiles. I've been more in the workshop than anywhere else. I've got the ADC(Alabama Designer Craftsmen) show coming up on November 1 & 2, at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. I've also been getting photos ready, too.
ADC has a meeting on Monday night, where we will be "licking and sticking" postcards to mail-out for the show. My items will consisted of traditional feltmaking and nuno-felted items. In case some of you that don't know, nuno felting is a term that was coined by an Australian feltmaker, Polly Stirling and her Japanese assistant. Nuno means fabric in Japanese. It is a technique I have really come to enjoy as it enables me to create lighter and more airy fabrics with the combination of wool and silk. I dye all my fabrics and then apply the nuno-felting technique.
So, I hope you'll come and see the show and stop by and say, "Hi"!
Off to the dyepot!

Autumn's Almost Here - Nuno Felted Scarf
As summer comes to a close, I am thinking of Autumn, my favorite season in the South.
This particular scarf came to being, as a result of me thinking of Fall and the beauty that surrounds us. The scarf is made with dyed china silk and merino wool.
It is one of many of the scarves that I have created to get ready for some Fall shows.
Vision is Important to My Fiber Art

Recognition goes to the UAB photographer, Grant Martin, and Virginia Rogers, both employed at UAB. UAB has a wonderful School of Optometry and highly recognized. I was featured on the back cover of the magazine that is put out by the UAB School of Optometry. Each issue features someone who comments on how VISION is important to them in what they do. Vision is important to me in every decision I do, when it comes to working with my fiber art, especially color values and hues. I find myself being very careful working with colors, as I want them to compliment each other and stand out. My vision plays a part in that every time. I'm also thankful to a wonderful eye doctor I have had the pleasure of being a patient with, Dr. Lynn Hammonds.
